My arty crafty domestic day

Before I get onto what I have been up to today, here is a pic of the print that I custom made (they emailed me it to get it approved before printing, which I thought was very cool of them to do).

proofcopy Me likes a lot :)

Right.  My awesome day…

I have been creating my own art work, making truffles and doing general house-wifey things.  Here are some pics:

So, I have cut out all my letters (which took an entire day and a half and I now have a blister from the scissors).  I have fabric glued my letters down and now I am going to sew around them to make them extra cute.

These are my mint chocolate truffles, made using a Jo Seagar recipe.  Everyone loves them and I have had so many requests for the recipe, but I never give it out.  I feel like a grinch, but at the same time they are kinda my thing and I don’t want to give it away.  I think I have to tho so people don’t start to hate me.

Merry Christmas everyone.  Have an awesome day, hope Santa is good to you :)

P.S.  I’m sitting typing this with the TV on in the background  -*Nsync has a Christmas carol – how did I not know about this naff holiday jingle?  It has a video of them riding in a sleigh :)

Sweet Felt Artworks

about-image2

The last two issues of Inside Out magazine have featured art work by Rachel Castle.   She does cool prints and makes cute art work using felt and linen.

Here are some examples that I LOVE:

why are there so many  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

loving you is easy
You can check out more art by Rachel Castle on her website.  She also produces some very awesome bed linen.

Now, I am inspired to attempt to make my own.  I am trying to decide what I want to make.  I’m thinking some song lyrics, but I can’t decide what my fave line from a song would be.  Also, I am liking the idea of ‘SMILE’ with a cute face at the end in bright felt colours – oranges and yellows.

K, had a think about lyrics.  Maybe “Just Dance, Gonna be okay, Da da doo doo-mmm” by Lady Gaga would look cool done in pinks and purples.  Also I quite like the song ‘Don’t wanna miss a thing’ by Aerosmith so I could nick lines from that.  And, I like ‘Oh Yeah’ by The Subways, so maybe I could steal their line “It’s your eyes that make me smile. Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah!” or “Be my little Rock & Roll Queen” from their ‘Rock and Roll Queen’ song – I like that the lyrics aren’t all cutesy considering the felt medium is.  I will keep brainstorming tho (or maybe I will just make lots of different works!).

LOVE art prints 2.0

So, I went ahead and ordered a whole lot of love prints.  Yes, I probably went overboard – and as I side note, I got the Jan/Feb issue of Inside Out mag while grocery shopping.  I need restraining!

This is what I have ordered:

pinkflock LOVEfabric LOVEalpha
The last print I have customised so it will fit with the colour schemes of the other prints.  I have ordered it with black lettering, and it says love in various pinks, with a light pink background.  Cute.

The first print is by Naomi Murrell, the rest are by Jennifer Ramos for MadeByGirl (who has a gorgeous blog that I follow and you should too).

LOVE art prints

I’m trying to decide if I splurge out and get some new art prints.  I’m thinking that a collection of ‘LOVE’ prints on the wall would look very cute.

These are the ones I am umming and ahhing over…

1.flock_3_etsy 2.LOVEalpha 3.LOVELemon 1. Naomi Murrell  2 & 3. Made By Girl

I don’t know about the colours tho.  I’m thinking of getting the colours that are in the pics I put up.  However, the last print comes in watermelon (and I’ve seen it in light pink) and the Naomi Murrell print comes in light pink, so I’m wondering if they would look better together and I do some more research (they wouldn’t go with the alphabet print tho, but you can custom make one - OMG, so think I am going to go with pinks now!!).

You can also get the Naomi Murrell print in red, white and navy which is very cute, but I’ve already got a few prints with red in them so I am trying to steer clear of red.

Coat Hooks

I got the new issue of Inside Out magazine today, and in it was an advertisement for these coat hooks:

jack
CUTE!  Especially since they are called ‘Jack + Jill’.  You can find them here.

So, seeing these coat hooks reminded me that I should get some funky coat hooks for when I get a place.  A while ago I saved these pics off TradeMe:

A quick search though, and the seller doesn’t have anymore listed :(  However, I am wondering how easy it would be to make some?  They are remind me of the Eames coat hangers you can get like this one:

eames-hang-it-all Now, a quick Google image search of coat hooks returned quite a few pics of these funky ninja hooks:

How cool would they look sticking out of the wall?  I don’t know if the points would harm your clothes tho.

So, my search will continue for now.  Maybe I will get some that look like the hands from the Labyrinth.  Ahh, now that would be cool.

World Sweet World

I am a magazine crazy person.  Pretty picture attracts my attention, and next thing you know I am buying it.  If I look at how much I spend on magazines it would be ridiculously high.  I always buy: Metro, Your Home and Garden (although I’ve got it on subscription, so I’m not actually buying this at the moment), Foodtown, Taste, Donna Hay, Inside Out, Healthy Food Guide and Marie Claire.  Then, I often buy Fashion Quarterly, North and South and any other mag that has pretty house pictures, clothes, interesting articles, or food recipes (which probably means I’m buying another 4-5 mags a month).  Lately this has been Australian Home Beautiful and a couple of other home magazines (No, wonder my pile of books to read is not diminishing – I don’t have the reading time to get round to them).

However, I found a new one today.  World Sweet World.  And I think it is going to be added to the regulars pile.

I’m loving the craft projects, because I am a bit of a craft geek.   They aren’t tacky either – I really want this stuff called ‘Art Clay Silver’ now which you fire and can make awesome silver jewellery with and I very much like the idea of making shelves out of old hard cover books – genius.

I also love the paper it is printed on, the photography and the fact that it is a New Zealand publication.  Oh, and it’s sweet  little size.  I want the back issues so I know what I have been missing out on.

Yeah, ok, this is definitely a mag that is going to get added to my regulars.  I can justify it tho – I’m getting Taste and Donna Hay on subscription as a Christmas pressie, so I will have the extra cash :)    LOVE!
