Tonight I’ve been cleaning. Throwing away essays from my university days (oh, how I sound old), getting rid of stuff I haven’t looked at or even thought about for a few years. I found a book containing poems I had written, starting back at school when I was about 16 I guess. The last ones have dates. 2005. It’s been a while. I might post some up here – there are about 40 of them, closed in their book, they haven’t been viewed by anyone else. Some are completely cringe worthy. Others, are perfect - I can recall exactly how I felt when I wrote them. I mean, some are very bitter, sharp, but then I can be, so I love them for capturing this about myself.

But, to the point of this post. Do not dilly dally any longer Melissa. In response to a blog post I was reading which was looking at the meaning of saying ‘I love you’, I post this, one of the poems found in my 2B5 exercise book:

I love you?
What does ‘I love you’ mean?
What is ‘love’?
Is ‘love’ feelings?
Is ‘love’ actions?
Is ‘love’ born out of attraction?
Is ‘love’ a purely human thing?
Is ‘love’ natural?
Is ‘love’ constructed?
How do we know we are in ‘love’?
Who named ‘it’ ‘love’?
Why is ‘it’ called ‘love’?
Does ‘love’ come from inside us?
Is ‘love’ really something that you can give or receive?
Is ‘love’ definable?
Do I ‘love’ you?
Do you ‘love’ me?

So, I like the conclusion you came to about ‘love’ dear blog post writer. You are not the only person in the universe to ponder such a thing. I think love is very individualistic. If you’re lucky you may find someone who is able to articulate a shared point of view about it. If you want to continue to explore ‘love’, I am happy to grow, question, share and develop my understanding with you.

Cross Stitch Letter Art

So, I just got the July/August edition of Inside Out magazine. in it they feature the home of Australian designer Tamara Maynes. It’s quite cool – quirky, crafty. It appeals to me. I like the bus blind curtain she has. Some cross stitch caught my eye. It’s very plain, simple cross stitch, but I like.

Personally I love the black fabric and the simplicity of hanging the stitching in its plain wooden stretcher. I want to make my own. I quite like the oversized letters. I’m thinking the initials of people who live in a house together and they each get to choose the colours of their initials. I get to pick 3 colours for my initials and who knows what the other people will choose. I think that is the art in it – the colours will reflect the people who live in the place. I think it would be cute it it was just a couple – 6 or so letters. Tamara Maynes only has 3 letters hanging on her wall and it looked sweet. I think the amount in the picture above is over kill. But, overall me likes.

Yesterday while I was perusing the titles at Mag Nation I came across ‘Sweet Treats’. It is a cute little book put together by the folks from frankie magazine (which is a bi-monthly mag that I usually buy, don’t cha know). It’s filled with sugary sweet recipes all beautifully presented and photographed on vintage fabric backgrounds. Adorable. So, of course I purchased it and I’m now excited to have a go at making all the delicious treats :)

I don’t actually drink much milk. However, I desire the milk inspired interior objects of coolness. Perhaps I got around to posting about it because I ate a whole container of Piako yoghurt this evening. 500g worth of yoghurt. Yes, that is probably a bit piggy, but it was oh so delicious.

I got myself a replacement pair of shoes yesterday - 'Serena' form Overland. Now, by replacement, I don't mean there was anything wrong with the ones I had, apart from I had worn them quite a bit and they were looking scruffy.

What is not to LOVE?? Custom making your own shoes! I want to make a million pairs. How awesome would opening up the box and seeing your new pretty custom made shoes inside be? Witchery is being wicked with my wallet

Witchery have just got these cute little ballet flats in…

I think I may have to go try them on and buy them. It’s not good though. I already own two pairs of flats from their current range (ainsley and poppy) along with at least 6 other pairs of ballet flats (that I can think of, a dig through my collection might unearth more). Another pair can’t hurt I suppose, well yes, it can – my wallet. Meh, I did say to myself that this year I was going to indulge in shoes – I even got myself a calendar that has a picture of a shoe for every day of the year to inspire me. Know what I’m doing this weekend :)

Extra Curricular Mag

World Sweet World have printed their last issue. No more cool crafty magazine :(

To replace it I have found 'extra curricular' magazine :) Isn't it pretty with it's cute hydrangea artwork on the cover? And it has rounded corners, is printed on awesome 100% recycled stock and they do a limited edition print run. LOVE.

Living etc Magazine

I just got the March issue of Living etc magazine and I LOVE every single picture in it! Every picture.

Included in the magazine is a segment titled 'Living with Shoes' - I am lusting over the blue cabinet they feature filled with shoes, displayed inside in clear boxes arranged by colour order. (Don't you love the heart artwork in the background made from badges?! And the green chair, and the fresh flowers that look too big for their vase, and the owl ornament on top of the cabinet, and the stack of old books by the fireplace, and the pattern of the wooden floor, oh, AND the tassels on the pillow?!). Eat Pray Love Trailer

I’m finding it a bit weird to watch this with Julia Roberts in the lead role – I don’t particularly like her as an actress (I’ve never seen why everyone is so fascinated by her and spend movies with her in them distracted trying to figure it out). Also I’ve seen a few interviews with Elizabeth Gilbert (the movie is based on her book by the same name – which I reviewed earlier) so I can’t picture anyone else doing the things in the book. However, I will give the movie a chance and the trailer is redeemed by the inclusion of the song ‘Dog Days are Over’ by Florence + The Machine. The Florence + The Machine album ‘Lungs’ is one of my latest purchases :)

Being a teacher, I have seen this video by Taylor Mali, entitled “What Teachers Make” a few times and I quite like it. It’s good to remember when you have had a crap day and are questioning why you bothered to become a teacher.

I stumbled across another video today which has been made to go with one of his poems. I like it because teaching Secondary school students I see/hear what he is on about on a daily basis.

Spoon me…

So, my friend and I have decided that vintage teaspoons are kinda cute. I think I should get me some to go with my Crown Lynn colourglaze set of cups and saucers, similar to the set in the pic of a previous post of mine.

I have stumbled across these spoons – they are up-cycled and they make me laugh. Want!

I found them online through the felt. website. They are made by blackswan. They also make another spoon design which reads “Wanna spoon..” – cute!

P.S. – I also still want one of the Mc Alpine jugs that are in the picture on my Crown Lynn post :)

Devonport Craft Market

So, I popped along to The Devonport Craft Market on Valentines Day. There was some very cute stuff up for sale.

I got my friend Courtenay a tea towel that had muffins printed on it – she LOVED it! The label had the initials ‘SW’ on it, but there isn’t a link to the seller on the market’s webpage.

I treated myself to a cute pair flower hairclips by Songbird Designs, similar to these earrings:

I’m eyeing up some porcelain cups from Porcelain Rove to purchase on my next visit. They are sooo pretty :)
